Hair transplants, hair restoration, FUE, robotic hair transplants, etc, have come a long way since the first hair transplant back in the 1950’s. There are a few things your hair transplant surgeon may not mention however that you should be aware of.
1. You will need multiple transplants over time as your hair continues to recede. The vast majority of men who suffer from androgenetic alopecia will lose two thirds of their hair. On average 50% by the time you are 50, although that age is continuing to lower. This means that if you do nothing to prevent your hair loss, you will need to continue to have hair transplants as your hair continues to recede.
2. At some point, even with the latest robotic single follicle robotic harvesting methods you are going to run out of hair to harvest. As I mentioned above, most people suffering from hereditary hair loss will lose two thirds of the hair on their head. This means than only one third is available for harvesting. You do the math. You obviously can’t take it all and you will be taking it gradually as you have your multiple transplants, but what happens at the point you run out and you continue to bald? Now you will have patches of hair where you first started to transplant, no hair around it plus hair at the bottom of your head as well. Weird.
3. It’s expensive. An average hair transplant costs $10,000. Some even up to $30,000 depending on the surgeon and method. And you will likely need at least 3 to 4 of them. That is a lot of money. I’m sure there are some of you who can afford that, but would you want to when Stop and reGrow offers you the chance to prevent your hair loss instead?
Now please don’t think that I am not a fan of hair transplants given the truths I provided above. I was in fact was one of the early pioneers of the single follicle hair transplant procedure and have personally performed hundreds of them in my time. It was through seeing the downsides mentioned above that I concluded there must be a better way and continued my research into genetic causes for hair loss and eventually created Stop and Regrow to prevent it as a better alternative.
It’s important to understand that if you do not act to stop your hair loss before its too late, surgery may be a necessary (or the only available part) of your hair restoration solution. Once your hair follicles have died, even Stop and Regrow cannot help and surgery is the only option for that part of your scalp. We do have clients who have a joint approach where we work together with a surgeon to transplant hair in areas affected by permanent hair loss and then use Stop and Regrow to prevent further loss and regrow the salvageable hairs. That way at least only a single hair transplant is needed and you won’t end up with multiple transplants and a patchy head.
