If you have read my previous articles you would know that I spent many years researching the genetic cause of hair loss before developing the Stop and reGrow solution. It was during this research I discovered the underlying cause for androgenetic alopecia - an inheritable coding on one of our genes for producing an overactive 5 alpha reductase enzyme that converts testosterone into DHT (dihydrotestosterone).
As we know it is the DHT which binds to our hair follicles in hereditary patterns and essentially strangles our hair gradually to death. Men generally start to see the effects of higher than normal DHT levels on their hair starting in their 20’s and 30’s. Other bi-products of higher than normal DHT are enlarged prostate in our 40’s and 50’s which leads to prostate cancer in our 60’s and 70’s.
While DHT is vey useful during puberty in helping us gain our manly characteristics, once we have reached maturity too much of it is a bad thing. Women don't need any DHT post puberty.
In order to prevent hair loss (rather than just treat the symptoms) an important part of the Stop and reGrow treatment is reducing the level of DHT in your system back to normal levels. How do we do that you ask? DHT is simply Testosterone with 2 extra hydrogen molecules attached. The molecular formula of Testosterone is C19H28O2. The formula for DHT is C19H30O2. Notice the H30 in DHT vs H28 in testosterone. That is the only difference. So what our proprietary Stop and reGrow formula does is knock those extra 2 hydrogen molecules off the testosterone and put them back into our system where they can combine with oxygen and join the 70% of us which is water/H2O. We also then add a proprietary hair growth stimulant to speed up the regrowth process and we are on our way to a hair full future.
And how much does this reduce our risk of cancer? Well the National Cancer Institute recently ran the largest clinical study on this topic with 18,882 participants and conclusively found that treatment by reducing DHT levels reduced risk of developing prostate cancer by 30%, which is HUGE.
A study back in 2013 found that 50% of men over 60 will get prostate cancer. Whilst we now are generally able to catch and treat it so that the risk of death is pretty low, the side effects from the cancer treatment are not something we would want to choose, including incontinence and sexual dysfunction.
The latest study published on the topic (Sept 2016) validates what I have seen in my practice - that hair loss is indeed a precursor or indicator of future BPH (Benign prostatic hyperplasia) which leads to prostate cancer. You can read the published study in the Journal of International Trichology here: An observational Study of the Association between Androgenetic Alopecia and Size of the Prostate
So the moral of this article is that if we are one of the 50% of men who have this hereditary anomaly (I am), then at some point in time you are going to have to reduce the level of DHT in your system either to prevent - or if you leave it too late – to treat your enlarged prostate or prostate cancer. Rather than wait until you have already lost your hair, why not start by preventing both your hair loss and reduce your risk of developing prostate cancer early by 30% or more?
